James Monroe
Born 1758.  Died 1831.  Fifth President of the United States from 1817 to 1825.  Prominent events during his presidency were the purchase of Florida in 1819, the adoption of the Missouri Compromise in 1820 and the formulation of the Monroe Doctrine in 1823.
